Directors: Laura Poitras, Rachel Lauren Mueller
Producers: Rachel Lauren Mueller, Laura Poitras, Yoni Golijov
The title, They’re Here, may remind you of a horror film - and rightfully so. The upclose, urgent journalistic style of the filmmakers follows Edén Villa (a pseudonym), a man trying to get to work amidst the chaos that ICE brings to the city. Behind the scenes, anonymous local residents and community volunteers establish a resistance and surveillance network to track, document, and evade and resist masked federal agents. The film premiered at this year’s Venice International Film Festival.
Laura Poitras is an Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker, producer, and journalist known for her political films, such as Citizenfour, All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, and Cover-Up. Rachel Lauren Mueller is a founding partner of Haven Entertainment in Los Angeles. She produced the documentary Under the Electric Sky.
